A toxicology report that was a part of Lindsey's autopsy was not yet been completed or released as of Thursday afternoon. The autopsy report indicates most of the wounds to Lindsey's body were on the right side, consistent with how he was seen positioned in the doorway in the body camera video. The Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, as is required by Columbus law on any shooting involving any police officer in which someone is wounded or killed within city limits. When contacted Thursday by a Dispatch reporter, Renatta Lindsey was not immediately available for an interview. She said Lindsey had a "rough life," undergoing multiple surgeries throughout his childhood for medical issues with one of his legs, and more recently, had been thrown from his forklift and knocked unconscious on the job. "He's never been the person to bring harm," Renatta Lindsey said. ![]() Lindsey's sister, Renatta, previously told The Dispatch that her brother had a respectful fear of police, making the fatal shooting hard for his family to understand. Soon after, the video shows different officers nearly simultaneously deploying a stun gun and firing their guns on Lindsey. One officer's body camera shows a gun on the floor of the stairwell landing near Lindsey's foot, suggesting he was no longer armed. There appeared from the video to be some confusion among officers as to whether Lindsey had a gun. Inside the apartment building, officers are seen giving more commands to Lindsey to put his hands up as he stood in a doorway between a stairwell landing and a hallway. "I think so he went down," the deputy replied. An exchange of gunfire occurred between them before Lindsey entered one of the apartment buildings.Ĭolumbus police officers are then shown arriving on the scene and asking the deputy if he had hit the suspect during the gunfire exchange.
